Is this something for me?

This trip is on randonneskis/splitboard. Gjendesheim have randoneeskis for rent.

You need to know how to ski in skiing slopes, and it is also good that you have some prior experience with cross country skiing or fjellski.

It can be varied snow conditions that makes it more difficult to ski, so it is quite different than a skiing slope.

You need also to have some experience with being outdoors in the wintertime. You also need to have a shovel in aluminum, but it is not necessary with an avalanche beacon and avalanche probe. See equipment list further down.

You do not need any experience with ski touring, and you can rent skis, skins, polls and boots at Gjendesheim for kr. 1700 for two days.

In order to rent skiing equipment you need to:

1. Go via this link and rent a "randopakke" to 850,- per day. You need to provide your weight, height and size of boots. This site is only in Norwegian, and if you need any help, please contact info.gjendesheim@dnt.no directly.

2. You get the equipment when you arrive Gjendesheim on April 4th.

Program

The program from day to day can change in terms of weather.

We will meet Friday evening at 18.00 to get to know each other and eat dinner together. Dinner is served 19.00.

The tour leaders will also present the plan for the weekend.

On Saturday it will be focus on how to use the gear, and we go for a small ski touring trip nearby.

On Sunday we will put everything together to a bigger trip. We will focus a lot on being outdoors with the gear.

We will be outside 6-8 hours per day; depending of course on the weather conditions.

We will go through these main objectives:

  • The ski touring equipment. Adjusting bindings, how to take on and off skins, use of polls.
  • How to walk with the equipment, kick turns.
  • Route planning
  • Ski techniques up and down
  • Orientation and tour planning

We will send an information email to all the participants 1-2 weeks before the course. The contact information of the tour leader will be provided in the email.

Accomodation

You will stay in a bunk room with 4 beds. You need to bring your own silk liner to sleep in. You can also rent bed sheets and towels at Gjendesheim. You can not use sleeping bags in the beds. Reed more about Gjendesheim here.
